Questions
Questions
Where do the depths come from?
NOAA's DEM global mosaic for every frame, with GMRT's ship multibeam laid over it in a spot frame up to 400 km across, and ETOPO 2022 if the mosaic doesn't answer. The method page has the detail.
How close are they?
Of twenty named deeps we checked, 13 land within 3% or 150 m of their published depth. Our grid is a model wherever no ship has swept the floor, and every sheet prints how much of its frame was swept.
Can I use it on a boat?
No. Every sheet prints "Not for navigation" in its margin, and it means it. Use a current chart from your hydrographic office.
Is the Satellite style a photograph of the sea?
The land is: a real pass from Sentinel-2, the USDA's aerial survey or NASA's daily imagery, with its source and date in the margin. The sea is drawn from the depth grid, because no satellite sees the floor past the shallows.
Why can't I order the Satellite style at 60 inches?
For a narrow frame, the pass doesn't hold enough detail to fill that size at 150 dots an inch. The studio offers every size it can fill; a wider frame opens the larger ones. The floor table has the numbers.
What if there's cloud over my coast?
We take the newest Sentinel-2 pass with under 5% cloud and leave in whatever cloud it caught. An honest cloud beats a painted-out sky.
What are a country's waters?
Its exclusive economic zone, the sea it claims out to 200 nautical miles or a negotiated line, from Marine Regions. The print draws the hairline and sets the published area beside our measure of it.
Where can I draw?
Anywhere between 85° south and 85° north: any coast, any country, any island. A spot frame runs 20 to 3,000 km across; a country frame 100 to 6,000 km.
Does the print know where I live?
No. Your pin is a place on the drawing, two numbers between 0 and 1, and the name you give it. Never an address.
How big can it print?
Up to 40 × 60 inches on canvas, framed canvas or art paper, and 40 × 40 square. The framed canvas at 40 × 60 is the one we'd hang.
Where do you ship?
The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. Shipping is the printer's own charge, quoted before you pay.
What arrives: the print you set up in the studio, made to order and shipped to your door, or a print-ready file by email the same day.
